A group of Year 9 students spent the day preparing and serving a meal for the parishioners of St. Cuthbert's plus special guests. On the menu was shepherd's pie followed by apple crumble or cheese cake (or both if you were lucky!) followed by some light entertainment provided by our students, Fr. Michael and Mr. Lee. A typically appreciative comment from our guests was, 'When's the next one?' so a big thank you and well done to all those involved!

We are well into the Year of Faith now and here in Hartlepool we have lots planned. On Friday though, we will be united with the whole diocese of Hexham and Newcastle as children and students from all primary and secondary schools take part in the Youth Friday Liturgy. We will have a video address from Bishop Seamus Cunningham with a powerful message of faith, prayer and the importance of the gifts of the Sacraments to us, particularly the Mass and Reconciliation.
Watch this space for more news and updates and hopefully a few images.

Here at English Martyrs this week, we have been focussing on Remembrance in our morning prayers.
Today, we looked at the individual stories of young men who came from Hartlepool and prayed for them and all who have died in war.
We learned how those from the Hartlepool are remembered in a special place in Stranton cemetery.
Lord support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done.
Then in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last.

How about this for a chance to share what faith means to you in a fun and friendly way?
Get yourself along to St Cuthbert's Parish Centre this Friday (9th November) at 10:30pm for our very first midnight feast lasting until 12:30am.
Come through the big metal gate to the left of the house and go down the dark scary passage until the security light comes on to get in!
